What is Testosterone?
Testosterone is a hormone produced by your body in the testes. It is responsible for maintaining muscle bulk, bone growth and sexual function. Your brain actually tells the testes how much Testosterone to produce.
Why Testosterone Drugs are Prescribed:
Your brain controls how much Testosterone is produced in your body. A normal amount of Testosterone in the body can range from 300 ng/DL - 1000 ng/dL. Your doctor typically wants to see your level is in that general range. However, if your level is below that range or maybe at the low end, your doctor may prescribe you a Testosterone medication to increase your Testosterone level.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has begun investigating the risk of stroke, heart attack and death in men taking prescription Testosterone drugs. The FDA took action after a new study was released showing that men over the age of 65 has a TWO-FOLD INCREASE in the risk of heart attack within 90 days of filling an initial prescription for a Testosterone drug prescribed by a doctor. This increased risk was related to all men over 65 and did not matter if there was a previous history of heart disease. The study also found that men under the age of 65, with a history of heart disease, had a 2-3 fold increase in the risk of a heart attack.
