Watch Out For Motorcycles!

Thank God Spring is here! Of course this means more people will be out on the roads, including motorcycles. Most motorcycle vs car accidents happen in one of four way:
  1. you switch lanes while driving and miss a motorcycle in your blind spot
  2. you make a left turn and turn right into a motorcycle because you did not see it
  3. you and a motorcycle are both sharing the same spot in a lane
  4. you pull your car out of a parking spot and didn't see a motorcycle coming

The good news is it is simple to avoid these issues. We just need to take an extra second to pay closer attention. I know, who has time to keep spending an extra second all day to look for motorcycles? Why can't the motorcycle look for us since our car is bigger? Well, look at it this way. Say you spend an extra 60 seconds throughout the day to double check the road for a motorcycle. Sure you could have used that 60 seconds to check FaceBook. But did you really need that extra 60 seconds if you compare it to the hours and hours you will spend on the phone with your insurance carrier, their insurance carrier, at a doctor's office, or even at court if you caused an accident?

So, before you switch lanes, drive an extra second or two and make sure no one is hiding in your blind spot. Before making that left turn, look just one more time to make sure a smaller vehicle is not approaching. We should be doing this anyway when we are driving. This will make your life simpler in the long run. Trust me, no one wants an accident.

My brother was in a motorcycle accident last week. I think he would agree that people need to get off their phone and pay more attention to motorcycles when on the road. We are trying to find a quality personal injury lawyer to help him get more coverage from the insurance company.
